2002: Arjan Erkel abducted
Arjan Erkel, Head of Mission in Dagestan for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), was abducted in Makhachkala on August 12th 2002. So far, all efforts by Russian and Dagestani authorities to solve the case had yielded no results.
I joined MSF in urging everyone to do all within his power to achieve the safe release of Arjan and return him to his family, friends and colleagues.
For this reason I composed Tying the heart that helps which was available out of the honor donation system. You can download for free this work with the only compromise of signing the Arjan Erkel petition for his liberty.
Arjan Erkel was released after 607 days kidnapped. Thanks to all the people who signed the petition the Russia Government was involved for his release. To be exact after 18 months of cautious wordings, MSF finally decided to openly accuse the Daghestani authorities and the Russian secret services to be involved in the kidnapping. A month later, on April 11, 2004, thanks to financial aid, Arjan Erkel was released.
